Random Bits

Since I seem to have no time to post when I actually think of something to say, there might be more of this type of "Combo" posts.

  • The one good thing to come out of the aforementioned Oklahoma books segregation is discovering the LibraryLaw Blog. I've been looking for something like it for some time, and now I've found it. Yay!

  • Bit of crisis at our house today. Seems that the MPAA has decided to actively pursue the destruction of the numerous BitTorrent sites that allow people to post and download U.S. shows. Since we live in the U.S., this would not normally be an issue; except that suddenly many of the sites we downloaded UK Television from also had U.S. ones as well, and many seem to have vanished overnight. This jeopardized our Dr. Who viewing, albeit only briefly. Due to fond childhood memories on the part of my spouse, Dr. Who must be viewed on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. Fortunately, one of the sites we use has no American programs on it and seems to be conducting business as usual, so we were able to get tonight's episode downloaded and onto DVD with about 36 seconds to spare. It was in wide-screen, which was okay, but the video quality wasn't as good as our old site.

I really think what they're doing is silly. For *&^*^& sake, they just want to download the shows because they aren't shown in the UK yet! Be flattered! Use this as leverage to get better syndication prices. Don't take this away. Sure, come down hard on the people who post films currently being shown in theatres, but leave plain old television alone.

On another note, I got us really good seats to Wicked in September. I am also hoping for a good Le Miz seat for myself (can't ever see it enough) and maybe some White Christmas ones around the holidays as well.
